Greco-Roman Antiquities Confiscated at Luxor Airport

The archaeological unit at the Luxor International Airport have seized 18 artifacts were in possession of a non-Egyptian passenger departing to Jordan, said Hamdy Hamam, head of the Central Department of Ports and Antiquities units in Egyptian ports.

The seized artifacts included silver and bronze coins as well as arrowheads.

All objects are dated back to the Greco-Roman era, Yossria Hassan, director of the archaeological unit at Luxor International Airport and head of the archaeological committee, stated.

Hamam said “The security authorities found these pieces in the traveller’s suitcases, and took legal action against him, and confiscated them in favor of the Ministry of Antiquities in accordance to the antiquities protection law.”
