King Tutankhamen is in Town – Hurghada

Dr. Khalid El-Enany, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, inaugurated earlier tonight about 8pm local time (6pm GMT) the temporary exhibition of King Tutankhamen’s treasures on display in Hurghada Museum.

The objects were a part of the 150 artefacts were on world tour till recently when they were brought back to Egypt from England.

This inauguration comes on the first day of the New Year 6262 according to the Ancient Egyptian calendar.

During his short life of 19 years, including his near decade-long reign as the King of Kemet, he went to different parts of his kingdom: his birth place in Amarna (Middle Egypt), Thebes (modern-day Luxor, his capital where he was buried), and of course Memphis where he used to go hunting in the desert.

As far as we know, King Tut – in his lifetime – didn’t travel to Europe or America as it didn’t exist to ancient Egyptians. Neither did he visit the Red Sea.

Nearly 3000 years after his death, the contents of his tomb, including his mummified body, have travelled to many countries. The last tour of 153 artifacts of his tomb toured around Europe and United States. The last stop was in London.

Artifacts have now been brought back to Egypt. The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities have decided to display some of the Golden King’s artifacts in the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, which should be opened in the next few weeks, and in the newly opened museum in the biggest tourist town on the Red Sea of Hurghada.

The artifacts will be on display till they will be moved to the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), which will host all the objects of King Tutankhamen since the discovery of his tomb in 1922 for the first time in one place.

Hurghada Museum is the first Egyptian antiquities museum in the Red Sea area. It was officially opened in late February 2020, but then closed due to the pandemic.

Dr. Khalid El-Enany, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, will reveal king Tutankhamen’s funerary masterpieces at Hurghada Museum on Friday afternoon, 11th of September, which corresponds with the New Year of the Ancient Egyptian year 6262.
