Dozens of 2500-Year Sealed Ancient Egyptian Coffins Discovered in Sakkara

The coffins are sealed and buried in a shaft 11 meteres deep. More to be found in the side rooms. Only one of them cleaned and cleared so far and the work is still ongoing.

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities’ team of Egyptian archaeologists working at Sakkara (Saqqara) successfully discovered a burial shaft with more than 13 intact sealed coffins.

The shaft where the wooden colourd coffins found laid on top of each other is 11 meters deep.

The preliminary studies show the coffins have been sealed since they were buried in the shaft.

There are probably many more coffins to be found in the niches to the sides of the shaft as one of them was cleared and cleaned and many artefacts and some coffins were found there.

The total number will be discovered in the next few days when more work is done.

All details to be announced soon by Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities وزارة السياحة والآثا
