In the final stretch before one of Egyptâs most anticipated cultural milestones, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) will close its doors from 15 October to 4 November 2025 to complete the last wave of organisational and logistical preparations for its official grand opening on 1 November.
Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the Grand Egyptian Museum Authority, confirmed that the closure will allow teams to carry out essential final works to ensure the opening ceremony reflects Egyptâs heritage at its finest. The museum will reopen to visitors on 4 November, coinciding with the 103rd anniversary of the discovery of the tomb of the Golden King, Tutankhamunâoffering guests a full, uninterrupted museum experience from day one.
Since 16 October last year, GEM has been in a soft opening phase, granting limited access to select areas. Earlier this year, the museum adopted new official visiting hours: from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM year-round, with extended evening hours on Wednesdays and Saturdays until 9:00 PM.
The November opening is set to be more than just a ribbon-cuttingâit marks the launch of a cultural destination decades in the making, uniting the treasures of Ancient Egypt with cutting-edge exhibition design under one monumental roof.
